Short history of the Peruzzi Company
Bruno and Dolores Peruzzi arrived in Ancona in 1979 and fell in love with the climate and the sea. It reminded Dolores of native Dalmatia, with a life style that is more relaxed and not as hectic as in northern Italy. With their children all grown-up in Vicenza, they decided to leave and search for a small house in the Le Marche region of Italy.
They found it at the bottom of a valley in Monte Roberto. A stone house, since long deserted, with fig trees growing out of the roof. There was around seven acres of uncultivated land full of thorns, with a small brook below. The sandy road was lined with beautiful oak trees.
Bruno and Dolores tucked up their sleeves and began to clean up. The earth is perfect for grapes because the hill is situated towards the south-east and the soil is argillaceous. It is found only in the center zone for the production of Verdicchio of the Castles of Jesi, a renowned local grape.
Bruno and Dolores planted the Verdicchio grapes and a hundred olive trees. Verdicchio is used for the production of white wine, but they decided to make sparkling wine as they noticed that the grape showed good characteristics for this type.
When they experienced the success of their first Spumante Metodo Classico in 1988 they decided to construct a wine cellar to produce an even more refined wine. Because of bureaucratic and practical difficulties, this project consumed Bruno’s energy for several years.
One of the daughters, Liana, came every year for vacation. When she returned from vacation she would feel nostalgic for Monte Roberto and in 1997 she decided to leave Veneto and engage in the family business. Shortly thereafter Bruno died.
Liana took over the company in 2002 and registered it in the list of companies with biological production. Following in the steps of her father, Liana, together with Dolores, continues with passion this satisfying work in true contact and interaction with nature.
Liana has chosen a path that does not deplete or damage the environment. She is always in search for the perfect Peruzzi Spumante without defects and produced in a natural way with respect for the land from which it is born.
